Emily grew up in Minnesota, where food was a big part of her life. Her grandparents were farmers, many relatives loved to cook, and some of her favorite memories revolved around the kitchen.
Coming to cooking a little later than most, she was originally a photographer and worked everywhere from movie sets to newsrooms. In 2010, she decided to move to NYC and attend the International Culinary Center (formerly the French Culinary Institute). Working across the country in all kinds of restaurants, Emily developed a love of locally sourced, seasonal, and flavorful foods.
